Could you please tell me the difference between the Riot Mako series flip drive and the Impulse drive & why one would prefer one over the other?
Both drives have their pros and cons so can choose the one you prefer the most.
The Impulse Drive has a propeller and can go forward and in reverse also to slow down and back up too. The drive needs to be pulled out once you get in shallow water to avoid damage or hitting rocks. It also pedals like a bicycle which some people prefer.
The Flip Drive has fins that propel it forward ONLY (no reverse) but you can flatten the fins against the hull in shallow water (by pushing one leg forward and the other leg back and holding it) so you can coast over shallow water (or paddle over shallows) without having to remove the drive. The pedals move forward and back only and not in circular fashion which some prefer and others find more difficult than the bicycle type Impulse Drive.
